Family Session in Calla Lilly Valley-Big Sur
This location was such a dream to shoot! There were no shortage of backdrops to choose from; a valley of lush calla lilies, a babbling stream, rocks to play on, the beach close by and of course the epic scenic cliff overlook! Wow, I wish I could hit pause and just drink in each little pocket of goodness.
This family traveled all the way up from Souther California to be part of our creative retreat in Big Sur. Kristi is a fellow photographer and literally an angel on earth! She was so kind and gentle with her three small children. Photo sessions can be stressful for little ones if they feel their parents are anxious about it. I loved watching Kristi and Steve navigate this photo session. They were laid back, positive, nurturing and above all playful and happy. The night we shot was a bit chilly, and they were all such troopers about it. They snuggled and played and made the best of it. I felt like they completely forgot they were being photographed and took in the beautiful night with their family. It was such a gift to witness!
Let’s talk about their look. I always suggest Mama starts by setting on her outfit. We found her Free People dress and loved how the tone would compliment the beach setting and that it offered some movement. I love pairing warm and cool tones so when we were deciding on the rest of their wardrobe we chose a warm brown for the younger daughter’s skirt from Joyfolie and her little boy’s corduroy pants. The floral dress from Rylee and Cru was the perfect final piece as it brought together both of the colors we were after and offered a beautiful patten. I absolutely love how it came all together. I offer styling advice to all my clients!
